lunar yoga: aquarius new moon

One of the few things I know to be true, is that life is cyclical. The ebbs & flows, highs & lows.  This idea is what metamoon is rooted in & molded out of. In case I ever forget this lesson, this new moon is one to remind me. It feels quite contrasted to the previous two energizing moons, the new moon in Capricorn teaching us the benefits of routine & focus, while the Leo full moon had us showing up & showing out, oozing with sunshiney goodness.

Now we are in the Aquarius new moon. This feeling of being in between, we are past the winter solstice, when our days were short & nights were long. When we were embracing hibernation. Yet, we are not quite at the spring equinox, when light returns to balance out the dark of night. When we embrace change & our newfound spark for life.

This limbo of wanting to emerge & do, yet being weighed down by the stagnant & still energy of winter. Where I live in North Dakota, we have had an unseasonably warm winter. We crept into one week of deep freeze & only to snap back to being mild. We have been in a period of freezing rain, mud & gray for what feels like a month now. We hold our breath thinking, could this possibly be over? Could we be let off easy this year?

A fresh white coat of snow on the new moon reminds us it isn’t quite time for spring. Exhale & be present with where we are at, rather than rushing to where we could be. Even if it is uncertainty, limbo & in between.

Aquarius is an energy of uniqueness, it is creative, expressive & does not care one bit about the status quo. I say this with the fullest appreciation for Aquarius season, it is beautifully weird. However, with this individuality comes the desire to share with our community, being proud to express ourselves as we genuinely are. Oftentimes in our society we are pushed to continuously evolve, there is always more to do & we can always be “better”. But Aquarius asks us to proudly share our unique beauty & be comfortable in our skin.

Not as we hope to be in the next moon cycle or 6 months, or how we were back in our most revered time of life. Right now. During this new moon in Aquarius, release expectations, take a break from the mold of everyday & give yourself a moment to express yourself, in whatever form that takes.

For me, that took the form of breaking out some Fleetwood Mac albums, letting them spin as I lit candles, pulled cards & just flowed on my mat with my dog beside me. What will this look like for you? Even if you take just 30 minutes, explore creatively how Aquarius feels for you. Here are some ideas below to get your energy flowing:

until next moon,
